Overview
Chrono Trigger, like many RPGs, is the story of a small group of adventurers who ultimately are set out to save the world from the brink of destruction. Unlike other RPGs, Chrono Trigger adds the unprecedented factor of time travel in its genius design. The aspect of random battle sequences are put aside as the player is not whisked away to a different fighting screen; the battles are fought directly on the main screen. Also unique to Chrono Trigger, the music is deeply moving and the storyline can only be described with such words as amazing and perfect. All this and more contribute to Chrono Trigger being one of the greatest games ever made.
The story begins with a mute protagonist named Crono. He finds himself in awe as he wanders the area of the Millenial Fair. After bumping into an adventurous young lady who goes by Marle, he presses on to meet his scientific friend, Lucca. Lucca has been experimenting with a teleportation device with her father. Suddenly, something goes wrong and Marle is disappears. Crono and Lucca are shocked, but volunteer to search for Marle, and thus, our journey begins...
On their timeless adventure, they meet with plenty of unique characters and situations, and soon come to realize that the planet will be destroyed by an event that happened long ago. A ruthless villian named Magus ruled a group of demi-humans, Mystics, who tried to conquer the planet. A legendary hero emerged from the armies of the humans and turned the tide towards their favor. Magus, distraught and defeated, summoned and unfathomably powerful creature named Lavos. Unfortunately, Magus did not realize Lavos' true power and what events he set in motion. All of the sudden, it is up to Crono and company to destroy the godly powers of Lavos and set right their future of ruin...
